Happy Easter! Check Out The Sugar N’ Spice VoxBox

Happy Easter! We are spending the day with family and honoring Christ’s Resurrection. How are you spending the day?

I received a Sugar ‘n Spice VoxBox last week.

Let me tell you about them!

The first thing I tried was The Nectresse. It is a sweeter made by Spenda. It is made from Monk fruit. I added it to my oats. I had to use 2 packets vs my one packet of Stevia that I normally use, so it isn’t as sweet as I had expected. it had a bitter twang to it too. I personally was not a fan.

The next item up is Colgate Optic White system. I use a Sonicare tooth brush on a daily basis, but had no issue trying out Colgate’s manual one lol I actually liked it a lot! I also do not typically use a fluoride toothpaste, but I did like the flavor and scent of the Colgate. The mouthwash was awesome too! This product was great in my book. As far as whitening, I have only used it for a week, but do see some difference.

Next up is the Vaseline Spray and Go. I love this product! It is quick, easy, and no mess. I can spray everywhere, rub it in, and be on my way with no mess or hassle. It is great on the go! I do wish there was a mini bottle to keep in my bag. Josh loved it too, no girly smell and it wasn’t greasy at all!

The Belvita Breakfast Biscuits were AWESOME!!!! Loved this as a snack on the go! They were bites of greatness. I will totally keep these healthy snacks in my pantry for my family!

Last but certainly not least is the Dickinson’s Witch Hazel Towelettes. These are my favorite item in the box! Perfect for on the go. They are an all natural way to keep your face clean and clear! Small packets make them easy to transport in your bag, purse, pocket, etc. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these!!!!

How My Goals Ended For March… Where Did You End Up?

Yesterday I posted what my new goals for April are. I don’t know about you, but I am SO done with March!!!! It has been a long month!!!

I am ready to tackle the new goals that are set, but before I get started we need to see how I fared in March.

March Goal #1 Was to do the #PlankADay challenge everyday. I FAILED lol I am not gonna beat myself up on this one. I seriously was a lot more busy than I had planned on being for the month. I did try and that is all that counts 😉

March Goal #2 Was to join a gym. We decided to hold off on this. Mainly because we are just settled in and we want to take the time to know our budget, know the area better, and figure out what our needs are in a gym. My main need for a gym is leg equipment and cardio. I am doing well with what I have, so there really is no urgency on this one.

March Goal #3 Was to get Zoe back into the groove of her weekly lesson plan. This has gone off without a hitch! This kid is a sponge! This month she has learned over 20 new signs, She knows her full name and phone number (in case she is ever lost), She has learned new shapes this month (Trapezoid, hexagon, and octagon) She has learned to do connect the dots, and is an ace at tracing letters, numbers, and shapes! I am pretty proud of my smart cookie 😉

March Goal #4 Start my Lean Bulk. This has been going great. I have not been cheating as much as I thought I might. It’s weird, I have basically just stuck to my normal meals that I was eating when I cut weight. I have had a beer here or there and Josh’s new favorite thing is having lunch at Red Lobster lol, but I usually eat pretty healthy there. Gotta stay away from the Cheddar Biscuits though, WOW those are amazing!!!!!

March Goal #5  Not worrying about the scale has been easy this month, because I expect to gain weight. I have stepped on it probably 3 or 4 times this month, basically to try to guess my weight ha ha ha.

March Goal #6 I have definitely up’ed my game in the gym. I tweaked my routine a bit, because I am looking to gain mass. Before the goal was to cut weight and maintain the muscle I had. I have no desire to cut anything right now just build, build, build. It is really hard for me to gauge how fast I should be gaining. I know my biggest issue is in the kitchen and making sure I am eating enough. This is a trial and error stage, because I am doing this on my own as an amateur. Awesome thing is I have several mentors who are willing to answer questions and shoot me tips on a regular basis and for that I am grateful! I have my eyes on the prize and I am not backing down!!!!

March Goal #7 I did it, I actually made a VLOG. I honestly didn’t think I was gonna do it for several reasons lol, but I said I would, so I did! If you missed that post, you can CLICK HERE

So to end the month of March I think I did well with my goals! My stats this month are I went up in weight from 134.8 to 136.0, I have gained a half inch to an inch everywhere. I think my progress is going great!

This is pre-pedi so no judging ha ha ha

Finally getting some Quad action whop whoop. The separation in my my triceps is stellar and I am starting to grow wings!!!

April Showers Brings Big Muscles? April Goals Are Set!

Whew what a busy and stressful month! I don’t know about you, but I am glad that we are wrapping up March!!!! Between moving, unpacking, cleaning, painting, getting settled into a routine, and Josh being out of town most of the month on business, I have been tired, stressed, and drained. You know what come from rough patches in life….STRENGTH! 🙂

Even though I had a few moments of weakness, I pushed through. Even though I broke down and cried a few times, I got down on my knees and prayed for strength. In the end I learned many things about myself. The gym has been an awesome outlet for my stress! Without it I would have gone nuts!

Well, now that March is coming to an end, it is time to set our sights on April and the great things we plan to accomplish! Let’s set some goals!!!!

Okay first off, with all the muscles I have gained, I have noticed my body has gotten quite a bit tighter. My muscles are not as limber as they once were, so I am going to incorporate Yoga back into my routine. I plan to dedicate one day a week to doing Yoga and relaxing. Yes, it will be my rest day!

My next goal is to get back into lifting heavy. I had taken a break from it while I was cutting, for a couple of reasons. One, I had injured my shoulder and it needed time to recoup and Two, I was making my lifting sessions more heart pumping, so I could burn fat. Now I have slowed things down and added more weight to gain more mass. My focus will be to go heavier, but concentrate on proper form. Compromising my form was how I injured myself the first time.

My diet is still currently 40/40/20 I do believe I am on track as far as gains. I am currently being evaluated by a couple of my mentors, just to make sure I am making the gains I need. So eat lean and healthy majority of the time with a cheat meal here or there, but most importantly, EAT!!!! I have to eat to grow!

SLEEP!!!! This is something I have had the hardest time with this month. Mainly because Josh hasn’t been here. Zoe has been waking up to noises thinking her daddy was home, then not wanting to sleep. When I finally would get to bed, I just had a hard time sleeping without him next to me. Now that I have him home, I need to get back to getting my 6-8 hours a night. Without sleep, my results will be thwarted.

Posing Practice. I so need to get better about doing my posing practice. Now that we are settled I can video myself and really see what I need to work on. This is something else I will need to do at least once a week.

I have been getting told I need to start a Facebook page for my blog. I want my blog to grow with me lol, so I will start a Facebook page dedicated to it.

To incorporate another VLOG this month! I got a ton of positive feed back from it, so I will do my best to make another one!

And last but certainly not least. To make sure that I am writing Zoe’s lesson plans out every Sunday and following through with her lessons, so she can excel. She is already such a smart cookie 😉

The “Thigh Gap” Craze Are You Kidding Me!?!?

So I have been hearing more and more about this “Thigh Gap” craze. If you do not know what this is, it is when a girl’s upper thighs have an inch or two gap at the top. Apparently the craze was brought on by Victoria Secret Models. We actually do not watch a ton of television, so I didn’t even know what the most recent Victoria Secret Girls looked like except for the few pics on Facebook.

The topic itself was brought to my attention from a friend of mine whose teen daughter has been starving herself to get “The Gap”, she wanted advice on how to help her daughter stop this fad idea. The young lady actually told her mom that every girl in school is striving to have this body type. I was floored!!!! Not that these ladies aren’t beautiful, but they certainly are not what most would consider healthy.

Skinny does NOT mean healthy!!!! I am actually angry that Victoria Secret is promoting this body type. Almost every one of the models looks this way. It is sending the wrong message to young women everywhere. Women are suppose to have some body fat. We are meant to have curves. Obviously it is a matter of opinion, but I find a woman with curves much more attractive than a stick figure.

I personally thought that the anorexic runway models were a thing of the past. I hadn’t paid much attention since my teen years, but apparently they are still going with the super sickly skinny look.

How do we get these girls to realize this is not only unattractive, but it could potentially kill them? How do we get them to want to change to a healthier lifestyle?

You can see that everything about this young lady looks healthier. Her body, skin, hair, even her eyes! It amazes me how these girls don’t see what they are doing to themselves!

How do we get these young ladies to understand what a healthy body looks like? Do these girls not know what happens to a body when it is starved or not treated properly? As a parent I think it is important we know what to look for as well. Ovious one is weight loss, dehydration, dull and/or dry skin, brittle hair, depression, anxiety, irritability, anger, changing moods, psychotic episodes, withdrawing from friends and family, changes in personality, binge eating, and laziness (granted that is most teens ha ha ha). These are just the tip of the iceberg.

I think my biggest fear is as a mother myself, I worry that Zoe will fall into these nonsense ideas of what beautiful should be. We strive to boost her self esteem everyday and teach her how to lead a healthy lifestyle. It is easy now, because she is 2 1/2, but what happens when she is 16? Will she still believe us when we tell her she is gorgeous? Will she still ask to eat the healthy options and want to hit the gym?

With parents contacting me about topics like this, I think it is our responsibility to teach our children the right way to care for themselves. Maybe it is time to start shutting off the television. We get fit as a family. This is something I do not plan on changing. We strive to make time to spend together doing something active. We also make it a point to lift each other up every day. I think self esteem in men, women, and children is very important. I can only hope and pray that Zoe will continue to think highly of herself and disregard the opinions of others.

Chest Training & My First Vlog YIKES!

Normally I do Motivational Monday, but I promised to share my chest training with you, so here it is. 🙂

I start out with 4 sets of 15 Incline Push-ups

Next up is Dumbbell Pullovers. I do 4 sets of 12-15 going up in weight each set. I make sure the last set is difficult and I go till failure. Make sure to focus on your chest muscles.

Barbell Incline Bench Press. I do 4 sets of 12-15 reps, again going up in weight each set and last set is heavy and till failure

Barbell Bench Press , 4 sets of 12-15 reps. Go up in weight each set, last set is heavy and till failure

Incline Dumbbell Flyes 4 sets of 12-15 reps. Go up in weight last set is heavy and till failure

Standing Incline Flyes  4 sets of 12-15 reps. Go up in weight each set,  last set is heavy and till failure You can use resistance bands if doing this at home.

Low Pulley Cable Flyes Go up in weight each set,  last set is heavy and till failure You can use resistance bands if doing this at home.

Well, this is it! This is how I start my training each and every week. Today I finally decided to post a VLOG. It is nothing spectacular lol, but it is a start 😉

Tribute To The Godfather of Bodybuilding, Crafting For The Hubby, & Chest Training Q/A

Sad news yesterday as we all find out that the Godfather of Bodybuilding, Joe Weider has passed away. He along with his brother Ben, was the creator and founder of the IFBB, Mr. Olympia, Ms. Olympia, and the Masters Olympia. He was THE Weight Training Pioneer.

He was diagnosed with a heart condition 12 years ago and was told he had a life expectancy of 3 more years. He continued to be a strong advocate of a healthy lifestyle, eating right and training everyday up until recently, surpassing that expectancy and living an additional 9 years! He was 93 years old and the perfect example of why a healthy lifestyle is SO important! Rest In Piece Joe Weider. You are a legend and we thank you for the knowledge you have imparted upon us!

Yesterday was a laid back, but productive day. Food prep was completed, laundry done, house cleaned, then I finished a craft I have been working on for Josh. I was hoping to have it done before he came home, but didn’t finish it till yesterday. I LOVE how it turned out though! Josh is what some call a beer snob lol He LOVES his craft beers IPA’s to be specific. He doesn’t drink often. He usually waits till he finds a hard to find beer before he indulges. He always keeps a bottle and the packaging. Most of which just stays buried in a box. I know he would be proud to show off his collection, but I didn’t want it to be in a tacky way, so I made him some wall hangings. 😉

I am super pleased with how they turned out and he loves them because now they are showcased!

Once I finished my crafting I started my Chest training! I get asked this question a lot when it comes to chest workouts “What workouts can I do to make my breast look more perky and full.” Breasts are glands and fat tissue, so no workout will make them look more full. You can tighten your chest muscles which can make them appear bit perkier.

Take note that when you lose weight, you will lose your breast size. This is something I touched on last week with my discussion about breast implants. At this point, breast size is not a concern for me. I am looking for muscles mass and separation. DLB is a prime example of an awesome chest! If you have been following me for a while, you know I look up to her  😉 I want to achieve with MY body what she has with hers.

I don’t have my current chest workout posted, but I will get it up tomorrow 😉 It is a sure fire way to get your chest perky and tight! Josh is leaving again this afternoon for another business trip. Hoping this is the last one for a while!!!!! So the rest of today will be spent getting him packed and ready to go. Have a fabulously fit day!!!!

We Cherish Our Family Fun Days!

Even though Spring has started, we have gotten snow. 🙁 We went from 80 degree sunny weather to 30 degrees and snow. Gotta love Missouri lol

This was after an hour! It came in so fast and hard, we were scared that Josh was not gonna be able to come home for a short visit. He drove his Mustang on his business trip. With it being rear wheel drive, it isn’t exactly snow worthy. We were blessed that it actually let up for a bit and he made it home late Thursday night safely. 🙂 Zoe was SO excited to see her daddy!!!

We had a great family fun day yesterday, out on the town. We went to the mall,  lunch, and swung by Josh’s new store to see the progress. I can’t wait till it is done and he can be home again!!!! Hoping for next week!!!!

 We took part in #FlexFriday last night, but we did it Family Style 😉

Excusitis The Disease of Failure

I get a ton of emails everyday. Most are how to’s on workouts and diets. First and foremost, I am NOT a trainer nor nutritionist. I have learned a lot from trainers and nutritionists and have no problem sharing what I have learned with you! So if you have questions, feel free to reach out to me!!!! I share the love xoxo

One of my pet peeves is someone who asks for help, but then gives me 100 excuses why it won’t work. Better known as Excusitis or the Disease of Failure. It is pretty serious and affects more people than you think!

I have heard every excuse in the book why workouts won’t work and why someone can not change their diet. Every one of the reasons can be overcome, the person just doesn’t want it bad enough to change those aspects of their life. This goes for everything, not just fitness, but life in general!

I have a lot of people ask me to motivate them. I can not motivate anyone. Motivation comes from within yourself. Your desire to succeed and your will to do whatever it takes is your motivation.

If you constantly have an excuse or have a negative attitude towards your goals, unfortunately you will NEVER succeed.

So next time you go to make an excuse or even have a negative thought enter your mind about succeeding in your goals, STOP and think about why you started your journey. Think about everything you have done so far to get where you are! End the cycle of failure.

Change your mentality and change your life, it is as simple as that!

Exciting News & Learning to Just BE

Exciting news this morning! I am featured on one of my all time favorite blogs, Wine To Weightlifting!!!! Jennifer asked me a while back to take part in one of her Lady Lifter Spotlights. I not only jumped at the chance, but was honored she thought of me! Jennifer is a phenomenal lady! She works hard in everything she does and is so inspiring. So yesterday I decided to quit stressing about every little thing and just relax.

Anyone who knows me, knows that is really hard for me to do! If I have a list of things I want done, I work till they are completed. However, with Josh being out of town and Zoe taking it a little harder than usual, I decided to set my obsessive compulsions aside and just BE. This is so much easier to say than actually do!!! :-/ I didn’t finish the painting, laundry sat in the basket, clean dishes stayed in the dishwasher, and beds went unmade. We actually slept in again 🙂 Yes, till 11 AM. It’s crazy!!!! WHO AM I!?!?!?!

Not gonna lie, it was nice to sleep and nice to not feel rushed to do anything. We got up, got dressed, had breakfast, and I asked her what she wanted to do? She said “I wanna go to the farm, Mama.”  So, that is what we did!

It was beautiful outside, but a little chilly for the first day of Spring. Most of the animals were inside the barn.

But there were a few outside too 🙂

Zoe’s favorites are the Pigs, Cows, and Sheep. From there we raced over to the playground area to let loose and just have fun!

It was a blast! The rest of the day was spent doing crafts and playing.

She still stayed up past midnight, but let me get a good Bicep/Tricep workout in. 😉 Then it was cuddle time on the sofa watching movies. I am thankful that Josh will be home tonight! Well, that is if the “Winter Storm” that is suppose to hit us isn’t that bad. 😉 Hopefully, it isn’t because like Zoe, I desperately miss him too!!!

March Goal Check In

So yesterday was a hard day for me. Not that anything bad happened. I think I am just exhausted.

I had originally planned on taking Zoe hiking again. I woke up early, 7ish noticed that at some point in the night Zoe crept into bed with me lol I decided to cuddle with her just a bit longer and before I knew it I was waking up at 11am Zoe was STILL asleep!!! Apparently she is exhausted too!

She usually has a hard time when Josh goes out of town on business trips, but this week she has been a little worse. Her sleep schedule is SO screwed up. She has this mind set that she has to stay awake because she just knows he is gonna walk through the door. No matter how many times I tell her he will be home later in the week, she just won’t hear me. I actually broke down Monday night and again yesterday because the stress from lack of sleep and trying to help her cope and understand that he will be home, just it won’t be till Thursday night.

During the day I have been keeping her busy with her lesson plans and I have been trying to finish up all the painting in the house. It has been quite the task!

I still have two walls in the living room and the whole hallway to paint. It is so time consuming, especially with a toddler and a St.Bernard running around!

My training sessions have been taking place late at night which is totally out of the norm for me. I have been hitting the gym harder than normal too. It has become my place of release. I get all my frustrations out in there. Monday night was hard for me. It was a complete battle of me vs me. I had no desire to train and even after I started I kept hearing this voice in the back of my head saying “Okay, you have done enough. You can quit now”

I am pretty proud to say I didn’t quit. I gave it my all and pushed even harder through my back workout! Last night was shoulders and I felt much better. Probably cause I slept in ha ha ha ha. I wanted to check in on my goals today. I know I am not faring well on most of them YIKES!

I have not been planking everyday. I started the first few days good, but then just kind of fell off. I figured all the extra work with unpacking, cleaning, and painting made up for it lol. Hopefully we get settled before the end of the month and I can get back into it!

We haven’t even started looking at gyms yet. With him out of town every week, it makes it harder to go look. I don’t want to make a decision without him. I want to find a place we can all be comfortable in. I am hopeful that he will be done with the business trips after next week. Fingers Crossed!!!! For now Gym is at home 😉mms_img-916071360

Getting Zoe back into her routine of having lesson time has been super easy! She has been stoked everyday to start working on her lessons and crafts. I swear she has gotten so much smarter since we moved!!!! She is speaking better, she knows signs we have not been working on, she is tracing letters like a champ, can count to 20, knows her ABC’s and most of the signs for them, knows her full name, all her colors, shapes (although she still confuses octagon and hexagon lol), Days of the week, and most of the months. I am pretty impressed with her progress! Proud of my smart cookie 😉

My lean bulk has been going great! I have had a few cheats here and there, but overall I have stayed with how I was eating during my cut. Just my calorie intake has increased.

I haven’t been real concerned with the scale right now either. Just keeping track of my gains via pictures and measurements.  I am stoked to grow!

Like I said earlier, I have definitely been training longer and harder. I have had to be creative since I had to switch my gym up a bit here, but I have still been hitting every muscle group and doing the work necessary to accomplish my goals.

Last but not least the VLOG. I know I still haven’t done it yet. Bad Joanna lol

So at this point I am at 60% on goals I will push and do my best to finish strong! How are you doing on your March goals?

Fierce Forward

She developed a line of bracelets that express the ideals or steps one must take to succeed in any goal! I just loved the concept of these bracelets when I first saw them!  The original line I saw was the Limitless Bracelets. There are 7 intentions/steps and a bracelet for each one. How awesome to look down at your wrist when you are really struggling and be able to see these and know what you have to do to push on! We all know that our struggles in life are mostly with ourselves.

Did You Really Just Ask Me That???

First off, Happy St Patrick’s Day!!!! 😉

So I have lost a ton of weight and have been gaining a ton of muscle. All of which I find to be AWESOME!!! However in the past 3 months my boob size has changed dramatically and I have started getting the most brazen question from people “Are you gonna get a boob job?”

I don’t care that they ask. I am a little floored by the lack of tact that people have though lol. My breasts do not look bad, they are just small. I was small before I had Zoe, which may be why I am comfortable with them now. I am not at all against a boob job. At this point I love my body and I am fine with them, but my body IS changing. I do plan on getting bigger muscle wise, as well as competing, so weighing the pros and cons of breast augmentation is something I have done.

Some of my Pros and Cons……

Pros:

  • Look better naked
  • Clothes fit better
  • Perky full breasts
  • Fit in at competitions
  • May help further career

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • All surgeries are risky (Dangerous, Botched job, etc)
  • Pain
  • Maintenance every 7-10 years
  • Scarring/Rippling
  • Judgmental people

I have a lot of friends who have breast implants. I have seen some pretty awesome looking implants and some pretty botched ones too. I have also seen first hand how painful it seems for the first week or so after surgery. Yikes!

Being that I am serious about bodybuilding and really transforming my body, I have been looking into what building chest muscles might actually do to implants. Most normal women will tell you to go under the muscle. It really does give you a more natural and aesthetically pleasing look. I have read from women in bodybuilding that with going under the muscle you can damage the implant as you build muscle. This is concerning to me. Even though there are a lot of competitors who have implants, there are still some who do not. I have favorites in both categories and both are stunning and have bodies that are phenomenal!

I do not think a boob job helps nor hinders any competitor in this day in age. At this point in my life I am comfortable enough in my own skin, that I do not feel that a boob job is something that is important to me. Does that mean I will never get one? No, it means that if down the road I decide to, I will continue to weigh my options and do more homework on the subject to find out what is best for me and my body.

What are your opinions on breast implants (without bashing one way or the other) 😉 What Pros and Cons can you think of? Is it something you would do to further your career, boost self esteem, etc?

Have You Been Unintentionally Sabotaging Your Progress?

Have you been living a healthy lifestyle, but still feel as if you have hit a wall?

Many of us unintentionally sabotage our own progress. There are a few tell tale signs that point to what the causes are.

  1. A trash can or recycle bin full of empty boxes. This means you are eating more boxed meals and processed meals than is beneficial to you and your family’s health. Most of the “Healthy” or “Low Calorie” frozen entrees are loaded with sodium! Most brands have a at least 25-percent of the your daily recommendation, an unappetizing odor and/or fake taste, a lot of unknown ingredients, little real food, they are pricey – $4 a box may not seem like a lot but cost can pile up quickly, and they are not a long-term solution to healthy eating (do you want to rely on these meals forever?) Try to stick to the perimeter of the grocery store for most of your grocery needs.That is where you find your lean proteins, low fat dairy, and fresh fruits and veggies!  Fresh foods are higher in fiber which will keep you from getting hungry 😉 
  2. Your Front seat or floor board is trashed. This means you may spend too much time behind the wheel and use your dashboard as your own personal buffet. 🙁 With fast food joints on every corner, it is so easy to cheat and get “just a little something” We have all do it at least once. An indulgence meal is one thing, but when it starts to become a habit, no matter how you spin it that Chicken sandwich is far from healthy! If you know you are gonna be on the road invest in yourself and your health. Purchase a larger cooler to keep in the car and fill it with pre-prepped meals you can eat on the go. 
  3. You stay up too late and get up too early. Losing sleep can actually cause weight gain as a study done between 2006-2007 by the Journal Sleep showed. Try to keep a regular sleep schedule, keep your room quiet and dark, a comfortable bed, and keep your house at a cooler temp at night. Getting at least 7 hours of sleep a night can be beneficial, not only to your waistline, but also your sanity 😉 
  4. Your local pub knows you by name. Happy hour can be pretty rough on your waistline! Outside of the empty calories (most drink are over 200 calories) Alcohol is technically a toxin, so your body works overtime to process it through the body, so the buffalo wings you consume while having a beer or two will go straight to your fat stores. If you are gonna drink, try to limit your consumption to once a week, workout before you hit the bars, fill up on low calorie foods during the day, raise your glass with lower calorie choices like white wine or a low cal beer. if you are gonna choose the higher calorie beverages then just drink fewer drinks. 
  5. As Americans we are known for our hulk sized portions. Portion control or our lack there of can be traced back to our unusually large dishes. If you travel abroad you will find that most use dishes a fraction of the size of ours. We tend to try to fill the plate with food which in turn makes us feel the need to eat everything on our plates. Let’s face it, most of us were raised to NOT waste food! We typically eat on the smaller side dishes that came with our dish set, we also use a food scale. A food scale is an inexpensive way to REALLY get your diet on point! When you actually realize what a serving size is and you eat accordingly, the weight just falls off!!! 

These are all easy fixes to get your progress back on track! Now we can nip the issues in the bud and continue to build the dream bodies we have been working so hard for!
