My August Goals Recap #PoweredBySaturnSupplements @SaturnMuscle

Wowzers! This month went by in a flash!!!

August has been a great month and better things are on the horizon!!! This month’s goals, although seem easy have been difficult to say the least. With focus and discipline, I feel like I did great accomplishing each one! I always encourage everyone to make a monthly or even weekly goal list. Something you can keep tabs on, to keep yourself accountable and on track.

My monthly goals are small steps to my big goals. I try to strategize a plan every month of what I need to either continue doing or need to add to my monthly tasks to get me closer to my dreams. Then, I check them off one by one…

Goal One ~ Stay Focused ~ I typically have tunnel vision once prep starts. This year is no different. am taking a completely different approach this year to diet and training and it is paying off!!! I am grateful to have friends at the pro level who have been gracious enough to help me on my journey. Staying focused isn’t hard when you want something bad enough.

20 weeks to 11 weeks

Goal Two ~ Rest ~ This has always been hard for me. I am a super active person. Making this a goal was a good thing! I have been taking more time for myself. I force myself to lay down with my feet up for at least 30 mins daily, I have been hitting the sheets earlier and forcing myself to go to sleep, and I have been taking two rest days a week. I definitely can see and feel a difference!

Goal Three ~ Quarter Turn To The Right ~ I never stop posing practice!!! This year I actually get a pro’s help in this area which will make for a huge change in my stage appearance as well! IFBB Pro Beckie Boddie has been a huge help all through prep. I was fortunate enough to have met her at the Las Vegas Classic last year. She trains at my gym and has been offering up training and diet help all year, not to mention taking me under her wing and showing me the ropes in posing. I have been blessed to have met such awesome people, not just in Vegas, but in this industry as a whole!!!

Goal Four ~ School Shopping ~ This was an easy task, because Zoe has been doing lesson time at home for years. We had most of the supplies, plus with her doing online public school they had sent out quite a bit of what she needed as well.

Goal Five ~ First Day Of School ~ We were SO excited to start school this year!!! Having someone else in charge of her lesson plan has been a bit different for me, but so far, so great! We love it! She loves each subject and I love the throughout instructions as well as the fun lessons. I am happy that she and I get to grow and learn together!!! I also love that school is on our schedule and can be done anywhere, as long as we have internet. Her first day of school was a blast and we look forward to the whole school year!!!

SBSC Fitness Motivation Monday! #PoweredBySaturnSupplements @SaturnMuscle

Happy Monday!!!

It’s a new week and I am excited! Today is Zoe’s first day of Kindergarten!!! I can’t believe my baby is starting school!!!

We are doing online public school and both very excited for this new adventure into learning! We spoke with her new teacher last week and Zoe already adores her. It’s going to be an awesome experience and I can’t wait to see her grow and excel this year.

This weeks marks me being 10 weeks out from the Las Vegas Classic. I am WAY leaner than I was this time last year. I carb cycled last week and will again this week. My body has been responding to it very well. I am down 30lbs since the start of my prep 10 weeks ago. I am very pleased with my progress thus far. My lower half is always what I have problems getting lean. It is happening, albeit slowly. My glutes and legs have grown this past year and I am excited to see what my lower half will look like when I get completely leaned out.

This week I am 11 weeks out from the Las Vegas Classic. It has been a much better week for me. Zoe’s head has healed up quickly and to be honest, it never really slowed her down. As for me, last week was a low carb week. The beginning of the week I felt strong, but man, by Saturday, I was dragging!!! This week I carb cycle. Yesterday was a high day and I got a cheat meal to boot, so feeling strong and replenished. My body is taking to my training and diet very well.

20 weeks to 11 weeks

I am hoping that I can get my legs to start leaning out more in the coming weeks. I am aiming to actually have muscle separation , which is something I have lacked in the last two years. Slowly, but surely I am getting there!

One of the main tips I have is don’t worry so much about weight loss per say. The scale is a very small tool. One that can be very discouraging if you obsess about the number. Instead of weight loss, think fat loss….

Don’t be afraid of the weights. Many think that picking up dumbbells means you will get big and bulky.This is far from the truth. I have nothing but respect for female bodybuilders. I have a ton of friends who are actual bodybuilders. I can tell you from their experiences as well as my own, it takes more than lifting heavy to get that big! Lifting weights does not mean you will hulk out. What you actually get, is the lean and toned look. Not to mention the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn. Pick up the weights and don’t be afraid to go heavy!

Find a good multi vitamin. When you are losing fat and even when you are eating at maintenance, you are most likely not getting all of the proper vitamins and nutrients that your body needs. There is a such thing as not eating enough. This seems to be one of the biggest issues most of my clients have. One of the first questions I ask is about eating habits. Most tell me that they eat WAY too much. When we get down to brass tacks and they begin tracking their foods, we find that many have been under eating. Motivation Monday SBSC Fitness Style #PoweredBySaturnSupplements @SaturnMuscle

Happy Monday!

This week marks 12 weeks out from competition. I am leaning out slowly, but I am leaning out. I am officially down 25lbs since starting my prep, which is awesome. This is the leanest I have been this far out from competition, so I am excited to see where I will be when it come stage time.

This past week has been CRAZY!!! Zoe got hurt on Thursday at the gym daycare. She took a big fall head first off one of their slides and split her head open. She has never had a serious injury, so it was traumatic to say the least. Zoe has a very deep L shaped cut on her head. We are still unclear what exactly made the cut. The equipment was searched and we couldn’t find anything that looked like it could have done the damage. Zoe was a rock star about the whole thing. Fact is, I probably cried more than her ha ha. When they came to get me She was covered in blood and we had a hard time locating the cut. Zoe has a ton of very thick curly hair. What I found, was what I thought was just a small, but deep cut. Her matted bloody hair had actually not only hid the size of the cut, but also held it together ill we were able to get her to the doctor. Once they had cut her hair away from the wound it opened up to a HUGE gash. Zoe sat really well while they numbed her and sewed her head back together. Asking frequently if they were done yet ha ha. We also received some other big news that I can’t share just yet, but overall the whole week just had me frazzled.

Rest and Recovery are a very important and often overlooked and underutilized. I am guilty of not taking days to allow my body to benefit. Rest and Recovery should always be part of the program…

Now rest and recovery are actually two different things. Rest is summed up by time not training and when you sleep. Recovery is much more detailed. It includes hydration, nutrition, supplementation, self myofascial release, stretching, etc. Basically allowing your body as a whole to repair itself, be it hormonal, neurological, and structural.

Without allowing your body to get enough rest and recovery, you can stall your results. Whether you are trying to lose fat, or gain muscle. Both require your body to be able to reset and refuel. These are the basic elements of proper rest and recovery…

Sleep ~ Sleep allows you to rest AND recover. You should aim for 7-12 hours a night. Adequate levels of sleep help to provide mental health, hormonal balance, and muscular recovery. Most athletes should aim to get at least 10.

Hydration ~ Adequate hydration is something I drill into my clients. It is a critical part to your recovery, health, energy, and performance. It also helps you lose weight and have healthier skin and nails.

Nutrition ~ I am a firm believer in everything in moderation.  Meaning if you are not training for a competition, the 80/20 rule is awesome to follow. Meaning 80% healthy with 20% live a little. Your nutrition needs to be balanced. Your food choices will either help your body or destroy it. I find most of my female clients actually do not eat enough. They ALL tell me they over eat, but when we down to tracking their macros we find that many are starving. make sure you are properly fueling your body. I promise you will see better results!

Supplementation ~ Certain supplements can speed up and or aid in the process of recovery. We have all had DOMS or Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness after a grueling workout. For some, it is enough to keep them from getting back into the gym. These are supplements I personally use to help speed up recovery, so I can get back to training for my goals!

I’m always excited to start a new week! Happy Monday!!!

I am a firm believer of a positive attitude. If you think today is gonna suck, then you are gonna have a bad day. Change your mind, change your outcome!

This week I am 13 weeks out from my next competition. I had a photo come up in my Facebook memories over the weekend. I was 9 weeks out in the photo from last year’s competition. I struggled in prep last year. I gained WAY too much in my off season and had a hard time losing the fat. This year I took a much more controlled approach to off season and it paid off for me greatly!

Seeing how much leaner I am at 13 weeks out vs 9 weeks out last year has a fire lit inside me. My whole training program and nutrition has been changed this prep and I am taking a completely different approach with some guidance and it is paying off!!! I can’t wait to see the continuing changes in my body over the coming weeks!!!

My clients are also kicking ass!!! I can’t force people to sign the photo release forms ha ha, but man I wish I could! I have so many who have made HUGE progress over the pass 8 weeks and I would love to share them all. This lady below has been one of the leaders in fat loss. She has made such awesome progress in strength, muscle growth, and fat loss. I strive to see my clients succeed on their journey as I have my own. I know it can be a long and difficult road and I am honored to have been chosen to walk it along side each and everyone of you!!!

Another Month Down. Hello August! #GoalSetting

As much as I hate how fast time flies, I am still counting down the days till I am back on stage.

Made some HUGE changes in my diet and training in July. August will be no different.  I am aiming to be more conditioned this time around. Every year I have taken a different approach to contest prep and I am excited with the direction I am taking this year! Over the next 13 weeks I plan on seeing some major changes in my physique. I have been training long and hard and I know it will only get more difficult from this point on, but I am more than ready to meet the challenge!!!

I encourage everyone to set small goals monthly to help you achieve your big goals! Whether you post on them online or on your fridge, post them somewhere, so you can remind yourself daily and hold yourself accountable. These are my goals for the month of August.

Goal One ~ Stay Focused ~ With my weight training, cardio, and conditioning training, my gym time averages about two hours a day. Some days feel harder than others. I know as my prep continues, it isn’t going to get easier. I need to aim to stay focused on the end goal!!!

Goal Two ~ Rest ~ If you know me well, you know I hate to take rest days. This year with my training program amped to the max, I need to rest when I can. I now have two scheduled days off from weight training. It is hard for me, but I know my body needs it!

Goal Three ~ Quarter Turn To The Right ~ It is never too early for posing practice. Although tweaks have to be made as my physique changes, practicing is still imperative. My posing has always been one of my major issues. Last year I thought I had it perfect and of course took last second advice from someone backstage and ended up messing up my back pose. This year I need to stick with what I already know. I am blessed to have the help of IFBB Pro Beckie Boddie. We met at the Las Vegas Classic last year. She trains at my gym, where we started talking. Super sweet lady, with TONS of knowledge!!! She has been a massive help this year!!!

Goal Four ~ School Shopping ~ Zoe has been getting lessons at home since she was a baby, but this will be her first official year in school. I still can’t believe we have a kindergartner!!! Like I stated before, she will still be at home for school, as we have opted for online public school. They have shipped some of her supplies, but we still have some things we need to go get. School shopping will be fun!!!

Goal Five ~ First Day Of School ~ Zoe’s first day of school is August 29th, so both she and I need to get prepared. I have all her lessons scheduled and on her online planner for this year. I need to go over each day and make sure she and I know exactly what she is doing and are prepared. It will take some time to get use to, but we are both very excited for this school year!!!

July Goal Recap

Well July went by in a blink! Seriously, if time could slow down, that would be great!!!

My July Goals, albeit simple to state, were difficult to accomplish. Each goal had it’s place in the big scheme of things. I am doing my best to chip away at my goals to achieve my dreams!

Goal One ~ Keep The Fire Burning ~ Whenever you are working hard towards something, it is easy to get discouraged and have the feeling that you want to quit. We are all guilty of it with something in our lives. Competing and placing this year means the world to me! A national qualification is something I have been working hard for years to accomplish. Staying focused and keeping the fire burning has been important. Especially on days when I am tired and hungry. This month I have stayed strong and pushed through every obstacle that was thrown my way!

Goal Two ~ Practice, Practice, Practice ~ Just as being aesthetically pleasing is important, so is being able to present yourself on stage! Having perfect poise, stage presence, and being able to showcase your hard work perfectly is imperative. Last year I felt like my posing was great, then I let someone critique me prior to going in front of the judges and I confused myself, over thought it, brought my arms back and ruined my back pose. This is something I am working hard to improve this year and am blessed to have the assistance of an IFBB Pro to make sure I have it perfect this year!!!

Goal Three ~ Hubby Support ~ I mentioned last month that there were some big changes in the Broadbent household. As I mentioned on Monday, my husband decided to take the leap from a career he wasn’t crazy about into something he is passionate about. Change is always a bit scary, but in most cases, very worth it! He was given the opportunity to take a management position with a gym. It is a huge change from managing mattress stores. One that we are all very excited about. He started studying for his NASM CPT a while back to help me with SBSC Fitness. Now it will help him with his career in the fitness industry too!!! I am so proud of him for chasing his dreams!!! We made a goal outline for both of us and it is awesome when things start to come together!!!

Goal Four ~ School Enrollment For Zoe ~ School starts on August 29th, so getting Zoe enrolled was a top priority. She is going to be attending public online school. It’s like homeschool in the aspect that she can do the work from home, but I am not her teacher per say. She still has a home room teacher that we both will be in constant communication with. The school still provides the books and curriculum I just coach her, when she need guidance. They still have field trips and live lessons where she can meet and interact with her classmates. It’s a pretty awesome set up really. One of the many reasons we chose online schooling is we are unsure when we will move again. Yes, even though my hubs has a new career, we will still have at least one more move planned for the future. 😉 We want to buy a house and settle down, but not quite sure Vegas is where we want to do that. A beautiful city with wonderful people, but we miss the snow already ha ha ha. Not to mention we will start traveling more for my competitions. Online schooling will allow her to stay on track, no matter where in the country we are. Back to Zoe’s education…she and I are both very excited about this new chapter in her life! I know it’s a blessing for me to be able to continue to watch her grow and develop into a little lady. Some may not agree with our choice. We love online schooling and think it is perfect for our family!

Goal Five ~ Client Successes ~ My ever growing client list has me gushing with pride! So many success stories and clients just rocking their journeys!!! I love helping people love themselves again. I love helping people lead more healthy lifestyles and hearing that they have the energy to play with their kids again and can fit into clothes they haven’t worn in years. To see their smiles weekly is probably one of the best things ever!!! I have a couple of openings left for August/September. Happy Monday!!!

Wowzers! What a weekend!!! I kept a close eye on the USA National Show here in Vegas. So many ladies that I know and some I have competed with trying to get their pro cards. It is SO motivating to watch!!! I keep a close eye on those in contest prep, mainly because you can always learn something from them and because it is motivating to see driven people working so hard for their goals!!! Needless to say, I am pumped to get this week started!!!

Before I do, last week I was vague about some huge changes going on in the Broadbent household. My husband Josh has been working for Mattress Firm for years and decided to take a leap and change career paths. He has accepted a management position with 24 hour fitness. He has been studying for his NASM CPT and been wanting to join me in the fitness industry, as this is where both our passions lie. I am so excited for him and a very proud wife!!! He is chasing his dreams and reaching his goals.

Today is your day to get out there and work to get closer to your goals. I once looked at the ladies in gym, on stage, in fitness magazines, etc and said “I will never look like that, but if I could just get close, I would be happy.” I stayed the course. I stayed persistent. I worked everyday towards my goals and you know what? I do look like them now. I did what I thought I couldn’t possibly do. Now I am aiming higher. YOU can do it! Keep going, keep working, and I promise you will see results!!!
