SBSC Fit Tip: Flaxseed Oil Benefits Fat Loss, Heart Health, Joint Health & More#PoweredBySaturnSupplements @SaturnMuscle

For those not in the know, flax is a plant.

The seeds are high in fiber and commonly used whole, cracked, and ground for baking. According to the Thomas Jefferson Agricultural Institute, a flax seed is about 40% oil by weight. Of this oil, 55% of it is omega-3 fatty acid.

SBSC Fitness Motivation Monday No More Excuses! Make This Your Week!!! #BuildWithThePowerOfTheUniverse @SaturnMuscle

Happy Monday!!!

My family and I are headed out tomorrow morning. In case you missed the memo, we are relocating to Phoenix, Arizona.

We are always excited for our new adventures!!! This one we get a HUGE city to play in and all the hiking one can dream of!!! We do love being surrounded by mountains ha ha. Just like last year, I am moving during contest prep. It does make things a little more difficult. I am currently carb cycling, so had to prep all my meals in baggies for the next two days to make sure I don’t miss any meals. We will be staying in a hotel tomorrow night and getting into our ne apartment on Wednesday. Luckily Tuesday is just two rounds of cardio (morning session and night session) and abs, which makes things a bit easier. Wednesday I will use the hotel gym to get my morning cardio in then use the new apartment gym in the evening for back training and more cardio. Thursday we will be joining a new gym and doing a ton of unpacking! Although it seems that we always have a lot on our plate, we lead a very productive life. We are always moving ahead!!! We are still working towards some huge goals and that will never change. We have no regrets and are excited with every new chapter!!!

SBSC Fit Tip: Get Tight, Get Toned #PoweredBySaturnSupplements @SaturnMuscle

The top goal most of my clients seem to have is to lose fat and get tight and toned. This is a great goal! Being lean, healthy, and toned not only is a boost to your self esteem, but also your overall health as well.

There are however, some misconceptions that I would like to clear up.

Being toned doesn’t necessarily mean weighing less. One thing I try to stress to clients is that fat loss doesn’t always equal weight loss. Especially when you are starting to grow muscle. Muscle is more dense than fat. The scale is a minor tool used to observe progress. I stress to always take weekly photos. Measurements are great too! The scale can be helpful, but it can also be detrimental. We have been preprogramed to step on the scale to see if we are getting results. I often find that the scale doesn’t show me anything but an inconsistent number. Your weight fluctuates throughout the day and things like hormones, water weight, having to poop, time of day, stress, sleep or lack there of, etc. can all affect the scale. Even though I do use it as a tool, I always celebrate non scale victories more!!!

You can not spot reduce. As much as I wish this was a thing, spot reducing just doesn’t exist. You can not do 1000 crunches a day in hopes that it will lean out your stomach, or 50 body weight squats while watching tv in hopes that it will lean out your booty. The only way to lose fat is pure and simple calorie deficit. No, I do not mean to put yourself on a starvation diet. There is a science to nutrition. each person is different and what macro-nutrients work for one person may not work for another. You still need food to fuel your body. If you aren’t healthy, you won’t get results. Fat loss happens in each individual differently. For example, my legs and glutes are always the last things to lean out. That is where I hold most of my body fat. Some people lean out from the extremities in, meaning their legs and arms will get lean before their torso. It comes down to genetics. No matter how you lean out, just keep going and it will all get there!!!

Weight training or muscles will make you bulky. This is one I battle with many of my female clients. For women, building large muscles is very difficult. Seriously, it’s actually hard for men to grow large muscles. Growing or bulking up has a lot to do with diet. To grow like most women are afraid to, it would take a huge increase in calories. Now that we are past that, muscles are important if you want the toned look. Without muscles, you are just skin and bone. If you like that look, I certainly am not bashing it. Some prefer to be just skinny. To each their own. When I talk with some of my female clients about their overall goals and I ask them what they are looking for, I have had a few actually send me photos of fitness models. They want to have toned arms and legs, lean stomachs, and perky butts. To have these things, muscles are important.

One of the biggest benefits to having muscles is increased fat loss!!! Yes, grow muscles, lose fat. For me, that is a no brainer!!! The more muscle your body has, the more calories it burns. Remember when I said, to get lean you need to be in a calorie deficit? Well the more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism runs. What does this mean? Well this means, you can eat more while in a calorie deficit. I don’t know about you, but being able to eat more AND lose fat is a pretty cool thing!!! Burning calories, just for having muscle… um Sign me up!!!

Obviously growing muscle doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, discipline, consistency, and most of all patience. I am often asked if supplements help? SBSC Fitness Monday Motivation! #PoweredBySaturnSupplements @SaturnMuscle

Happy Monday!!!

A lot more new faces this week! I’m very excited and honored that you chose SBSC Fitness to help guide you on your journey! Every Monday I make a motivational post, just to get us geared up for the coming week and to keep myself accountable for my own journey.

This week is a busy one. If you have been following me on here or social media, you know that my family is on the move again! We are now headed to the Phoenix, Arizona area. My husband has a senior management opportunity with a company and we just couldn’t pass it up! We have family and several friends there, so it is just a great move for all of us. We are very excited!!!

Some might be asking if I am still going to compete in the Las Vegas Classic on November 5th. The answer is ABSOLUTELY! I have been training hard for this competition. The drive is just over 4 hours, so just a short road trip away.

Seems we are moving by the end of the week, so I have a lot on my plate. My training takes 3-4 hours split between two sessions, Zoe has school with me for 2-3 hours, I have a full load of clients, and I am trying to get this house packed and cleaned. Needless to say, I am not bored ha ha ha ha.

Like I said before motivation Monday is a great way to get some positive thoughts running through your head. Mondays have a bad rap. Most people looks at it as ugh Monday is here, time to get back to work. If you change that negative to a positive, Mondays become the base of starting an awesome week! Today let’s not make it an Oh no it’s Monday day, let’s make it an Okay Monday show me what you got, kind of day!

You will want to make excuses. Trust me, there are days when I have NO interest in training or tracking my foods, but my end goal is something I want SO bad. On those days, I sit down and I think about why I started. I look back at how far I have come. These thoughts and desires fuel me. They light a fire in me that makes me want to train harder. That feeling of “man, I just don’t want to go.” or “Ugh, my body hurts so bad.” Those thoughts go away and I just go do what needs to be done. Those day I usually end up training more fierce than the days that I look forward to the gym. Never forget you WHY. Never forget why you started. And most importantly, stop looking at how far you need to go and look at how far you have already come!!!

Just A Little SBSC Monday Motivation For Ya! #PoweredBySaturnSupplements @SaturnMuscle

It’s Monday! Time to get motivated!!!

Every week I sit down and think about my goals. My short term goals and my long term. I think about what I am going to have to do to get them complete. I decide what steps need to be taken this week and I go do it! This is how you get things accomplished. It doesn’t get any more simple than that! Picture your goal, make a plan, go do it.

The SBSC household has a lot going on. I’m still not able to elaborate much, but we are packing up the house. HUGE changes are coming about in the next 2 weeks. Happy and exciting changes, so no need to worry ha ha ha. On top of all that my contest prep is still in full effect. I am 8 weeks out. It’s crazy to me that I am already in the single digits as far as how far out from the competition I am. It seems like I just started prep not that long ago. So far, I still feel really strong. My nutrition has been changing constantly. Last week and this week I have been reloading, which I don’t mind in the least. I do love my carbs ha ha. Next week I will be back to carb cycling. My body actually responds really well to it. The changes this year in my physique have been insane! Again, blessed to have friends who have so much knowledge in the sport and in nutrition to guide me in the right direction. I am certainly bringing a new physique to the Las Vegas Classic stage this year and I am very excited about it!

When talking about making healthy improvements, I always mean overall.

Being healthy from the inside out is important. When you start to make changes in your diet and exercise routine, you not only change the shape of your body, but the shape that your hair, skin, and nails are in as well!

When I started my journey, my skin was mess and my hair not much better. My hair was so bad, I had cut it all off. Making improvements in those areas has been important to me, as I am sure it is with most aging women. In the past 6 years I have made huge strides, not only in my physique, but also with the texture of my skin, the strength of my nails, and both in regards to my hair.

My husband says I have been reverse aging and looking back on pics, I think he may be right! I do have some tried and true beauty tips that I have been following over the past few years.

One ~ Drink Tons Of Water ~ Water is essential to maintaining optimum skin moisture and delivering essential nutrients to the skin cells. It replenishes your skin tissue and increases its elasticity. Helping delay the appearance of signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines. I personally drink anywhere from 1-2 gallons a day. To some that is in excess, but you must keep in mind I train for over 2 hours daily, so my body loses a ton of water through sweat.

Two ~ A Great Multi Vitamin ~ What you put into your body shows on the outside. I actually take 2 different supplements for my hair skin and nails. Three ~ My Moisturizing Coffee Scrub ~ I love my homemade moisturizing coffee scrub! I have been using it for a little over a year now and my skin’s overall look and texture and improved 10 fold. It is a simple recipe. This amount lasts a few weeks. 3 tbsp used coffee grounds, 1 whole egg, 1 tbsp mayo w/ olive oil, 1 tbsp olive oil. Mix well rub all over your face and neck (I actually used this last year full body before my competition to slough off all dead skin and leave a soft base before my spray tan) Leave on for about 15 mins then scrub in small circles, before rinsing. You are left with bright, soft, and supple skin. You can keep it in the fridge. I use it once to twice a week.

Four ~ My Moisturizing Hair Mask ~ This one I also have been using for quite a while and it is awesome for conditioning your dry tresses. I just coat my hair in Mayo with olive oil, wrap my head in a plastic bag and let it sit for 30-45 mins before rinsing. leaves my hair silky and shiny. You only smell like potato salad while it’s in your hair 😉 Once you rinse and wash with shampoo, there is no smell.

Happy Monday!!!

Whew! Last week was a rough one for me. I was a bit sick, so my already difficult training became much harder. I pushed through and did what I had to. I am officially 9 weeks out and feeling great about my progress!!! I found a new vein yesterday, so I guess you can say things are getting pretty serious ha ha ha ha

Zoe’s first week of school was awesome! So awesome in fact that she wanted to have school time over the holiday, so we are now 3 days ahead of schedule ha ha. Not a bad thing considering everything we have and will have going on in the coming weeks.

I had clients check in’s over the past few days as well. WOWZERS! My clients are really kicking ass! I am SO proud of each and every one of them!!! HUGE strides this week and they all have me motivated!

It’s September! New month, means new goals!!!

I am really excited to start this month! I am basically down to the single digits, when it comes to my weekly competition count down. As of Saturday I will be officially 9 weeks out. I am excited every year to hit the stage! This year is no different. Taking a much different approach to my diet and training and so far seeing some remarkable changes. This year will definitely be the leanest I have ever come into a competition.

September is going to be a busy month for the SBSC household. We have taken on quite a few more clients. This is awesome, because I love helping others reach their potential!!! Contest prep of course has me training much more and Zoe starting school has also added to my day. It is chaotic, but I love the challenge!!!

As I do every month, I am posting my goals. I do this , because setting smaller goals helps me accomplish my larger goals. Posting them here, allows my clients and followers to get a better idea of what goals they may want to set for themselves and keeps me accountable. A key is to make sure that the time frame for your goals is attainable. Take some time to sit down and really think about where you are wanting to take yourself, be it physically, mentally, your family life, career, etc. Then think about what small steps you need to take to get there. Breaking it down makes easier to accomplish without feeling overwhelmed.

Here are my September Goals….

Goal One ~ Stay Driven, Focused, & Hungry ~ Contest prep has a way of breaking down even the strongest of people. There is a particular mindset you have to adapt to be able to continue grueling training sessions long cardio, and a strict diet. Your mind constantly wants to quit. I set this goal, not because I struggle with it, but because I want to remind myself to stay driven, focused, and hungry. Getting so close last year to placing and not being able to follow through lit a fire under me. I wasn’t mad that I lost, but was disappointed. I don’t want to walk away empty handed this year. I have a goal to get NQ and compete in nationals next year. Everyone brings their best, so I need to make sure my best is better!

Goal Two ~ Pack Up ~ It seems we are on the move again. Our lease ends the first week of October, but…. that isn’t the exact reason we are moving. I can’t quite announce exactly where or why we are moving yet, but I have been told to start packing up the house! I can say that adventure seems to love this family ha ha ha. I do love our life and our experiences and trust that wherever God wants us, is where we will end up!

Goal Three ~ Posing Practice ~ With all that ^ being said, I need to get my posing coach to make sure we get a good basis for my posing and iron out any bugs I have for now. Obviously, as my physique changes, my posing will need slight tweaks as well. Those we should be able to do over Skype. I am grateful that IFBB Pro Beckie Boddie has taken me under wing this year. Goodness knows that I needed the help with posing ha ha .

Goal Four ~ Keep Zoe Going ~ Zoe loves to learn, so gets excited everyday for school. My only concern is she seems to get bored with their math, because she is so far ahead of what they are teaching. I plan on discussing it with her teacher and seeing what she says. Other than that, the two hours a day of school has been a fun experience for both of us! She loves playing on the computer and all the worksheets and I love watching her learn, grow, and develop. It’s a win, win for both of us!!! So far, I am very happy we went this route. She will not lose out on any education no matter where we are, it’s done on our schedule, and she can even have school on holidays and trade out the day off. Works great for us, since we like to hit the road on occasion!

This month only has 4 goals, but they will all keep me quite busy!!! I am excited for this month and for what the future holds!
