Have you tried Coconut oil yet? Learn some of the many benefits and why you should!

About two years ago, a friend had started talking to me about Coconut oil and it’s many benefits. She swore by the stuff!

She made me curious enough to start doing my own research! ūüôā WOW! As I learned more, I realized this super food needed to become a part of our everyday consumption!!! We have been using it ever since!

It was first introduced to me for weight loss. It contains¬†fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It aids in the functions of your thyroid and enzyme systems. It speeds up your metabolism, which gives you more energy to burn. When you are more active, you lose weight ūüėČ

Coconut oil also aids in digestion.  There are saturated fats present in coconut oil have anti microbial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi, parasites, etc., that cause indigestion. It is also known to help in absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids. As it improves the digestive system, it helps prevents various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome.

It strengthens the immune system as it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin, which in turn helps ward off viruses and diseases.

My Dad recently had a stint in the hospital. They restricted his diet and I couldn’t help but notice that Coconut oil was on the NOT ALLOWED to have list. i was kind of floored by this. I spoke to his doctor about it and his doctor agreed with me that it was nonsense! Coconut oil gets a bad rap for being so high in saturated fat. It is actually¬†beneficial for the heart. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. It is a safe oil, unlike many¬†vegetable¬†oils!

It is awesome for your skin and hair!!! It works as an excellent conditioner for your hair. I apply it right after washing. It leaves my hair soft, shiny, and healthy! The proteins in it nourish damage hair and promote regrowth. I use it as a daily moisturizer too! It has helped heal my acne and soften my skin!!! My skin has actually started looking younger since using it too!!!

It is awesome for any type of infection, internal or external. It is¬†antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. According to the¬†Coconut Research Center, coconut oil kills viruses that cause influenza, measles, hepatitis, herpes, SARS, etc. It also kills bacteria that cause ulcers, throat infections, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, and gonorrhea, etc. Coconut oil is also effective on fungi and yeast that cause candidiasis, ringworm, athlete’s foot, thrush, diaper rash, etc. It has even been known to help bruises heal!!!!

The first coconut oil I bought was from Walmart. It was the brand Lou Ana. I wasn’t really impressed with the quality.

I found a different brand, Spectrum. It was quite a bit better than the other and I really liked it!

Then, I got the opportunity to try yet another brand. Whoa!!!!! I have been missing out!!!!! I got a shipment in the other day from a company called Tropical Traditions.

Now before you think I am just plugging away for this company, let me give a quick disclaimer: Tropical Traditions did provide me with a free sample, but I was under NO OBLIGATION to review it in any way, positive or negative. I am telling you about it, because I found the product to be AWESOME!!!!

Back to what I saying, I opened the jar and I immediately could see and smell a difference! I compared the two right way!!!

Okay, kinda hard to see the difference in the photo. The one on the left is Tropical Traditions and the one on the right is Spectrum.

Spectrum’s coconut oil is hard, solid white, has no smell, or taste. Tropical Traditions is soft, opaque, smelled strongly of coconut, and also had a coconut taste. I was also impressed by the fact that it is produced by hand and not mechanically separated or refined like the other. ¬†Here is a Youtube video from their website about how they came about it and how they currently produce it!

I thought it was just another “Diet Pill” Wow, was I wrong!!!!

A couple of weeks ago I heard about a product called SkinnyBits. At first I did not pay much attention to it, because I don’t usually fall into a diet pill fads. I started seeing more people talking about. Out of¬†curiosity¬†I looked it up and saw that it was in fact NOT a supplement or “Magic” diet pill. It IS in fact 100% Spirulina Algae tabs. This did actually perked my curiosity more and I was pretty stoked to score a sample to try them out!

This is the actual sample I received ūüôā

While waiting on their arrival, I wanted to do more research on Spirulina Algae. I have a friend who has been ordering it from a different company and mixing it with their food and shakes for years! What strikes me as amazing, is how high in protein it is! Protein is a huge part of my diet. It helps me build lean muscle mass when I am weight training.

Raw protein is not the only valuable benefit though! It is also full of major vitamins: A1, B1, B2, B6, B12 , C and E. It also contains beta-carotene, all the essential fatty acids, as well being 62% amino acids. It is also is full of important minerals like calcium, iron, zinc, and the list goes on and on! Pretty impressive really!!!

Upon more research, I found that the blue-green algae is great for several things: weight loss, stress, fatigue, anxiety, diabetes, ADHD, depression, PMS, improving your memory, lowering your cholesterol, increasing your metabolism, preventing heart disease, this list actually goes on and on too!

I even found some recipes that incorporate it! Algae smoothies, Guacamole, even Energy bars!

It is widely available in many forms and in many price ranges. With SkinnyBits or any of their HealthBits, you can order a bag of the tabs and they send a tin (like the sample one) that you can refill and carry with you. There is a smell to the tabs when you first open them. I just swallowed them like pills, but the paperwork that came with them said you can eat them too. It did warn that it is an¬†acquired¬†taste though ūüėČ LOL I wasn’t quite ready to¬†acquire¬†it. I was impressed with the product and will probably be adding Spirulina Algae to our diet. I would definitely check them out!!! By the way,I am not being paid by HeathBits for reviewing their product, I simply am impressed by the health benefits of Spirulina Algae. I would however use/or promote their product, because I do believe in it’s benefits! You will never see a product on my blog, that I would not use myself or give to my family!

What the tabs actually look like!

Like I said, you can buy it in many forms and many different price ranges. I still have questions about the quality if buying from a different company at a cheaper price? Being a frugal mama, I obviously want the best bang for my buck! Certainly, I do believe it will greatly benefit my family and I, but I always want to make sure I am getting the best price too!

Huge thank you to SkinnyBits for allowing me to sample your product! If you have more questions about SkinnyBits, you can click on their name anywhere in my blog to go to their website. You can also get a 10% discount on any of the HealthBits by using the code BLOG! Definitely check them out!!!!

Have you ever tried Spirulina Algae? What are your thoughts on the health benefits? Would this be something you would add to your family’s diet? I love¬†input¬†from my readers, so if you have comments or questions, fire away!!!
